History of Post 12

The number twelve is special because it was the badge number of Officer Floyd Haley.

Officer Haley was killed in the line of duty in 1967 when he interrupted a burglary. That number was chosen for the Post to represent the dedication to excellence in law enforcement that our explorers should have.

To be accepted as a member of the post, candidates are orally interviewed by a board, and must attend three meetings before being voted into membership by the majority of the members. The candidate is then placed on a three month probationary period. To maintain membership the Explorer must follow the bylaws. Some of the post bylaws include:

Explorers is a coed branch of the Boy Scouts of America. The purpose of the explorers is to provide young adults with an opportunity to "explore" a career and receive training in that career. There are several posts in the Rochester area including at the Mayo Clinic, Gold Cross Ambulance, the Rochester Fire Department, the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office , and the Rochester Police Department.
